Following the global bestseller Sapiens, Yuval Noah Harari’s sequel Homo Deus details the downfalls and triumphs of humans through the advent of technology.

While Sapiens explains 75,000 years of human history and evolution, Homo Deus is a glimpse into a world where humans could become obsolete. Harari writes about humanity’s self-destructive behaviour and how this has led to a limit of our power.

Humans have built empires, caused genocides, altered Earth’s atmosphere and now are turning to technology for the next stage of their reign. Harari says, “In seeking bliss and immortality humans are in fact trying to upgrade themselves into gods.”

He discusses the fine line between becoming gods and becoming extinct by our own hands. Harari questions every aspect of our morality and human nature. He does not attempt to express firm predictions, but rather discusses the various possible outcomes for the future of modern Sapiens.
